The 25th of February saw us get another PlayStation State of Play and the first of 2021, I didn't go into this with high expectations as it was announced pretty last minute and to be honest it is pretty early in the year which is still suffering with the implications of the Covid pandemic which has delayed a lot of games and surrounded the industry with plenty of uncertainty ahead of future releases, who knows if games are still going to be on track or not. So here are my thoughts on what we saw at the State of Play...
Crash Bandicoot 4 : It's About Time
Crash 4 It's About Time is coming to the PS5 with 4K graphics and at 60 FPS which looks absolutely amazing. The PS5 edition uses the adaptive triggers of the PS5 Dualshock controller which is bound to be a great addition to the game. If you already own the game on PS4 there will be an upgrade available too. I might pick up this game eventually but for now I am still back and forth on the N Sane trilogy which still ends up driving me mad.
Returnal
When I saw this trailer at a previous State of Play I was quite interested in this game however, now I have seen a little bit more of it I aren't too sure. Granted the trailer does look good and gives off Titanfall 2 vibes to me however, I just think that it looks a bit too stressful for my liking and I would probably be frustrated after 5 minutes. From what we heard about the story it sounds quite good too as you are reliving the characters personal nightmare and each time you die the world changes which is interesting. This game comes out on the 30th of April so there is plenty of time to make my mind up on it.
Knockout City
This game from Indie Studio Velan Studios coming to the PS4 looks like it is going to really fun to play. This multiplayer game is a team based dodgeball game where you can have battles and do trick shots. From the trailer I actually really liked the look of this game even though I don't do multiplayer games normally, I am very tempted to purchase this game when it comes out on May 21st or a bit later on down the line.
SIFU
This PS5 game is a Kung Fu action game with a bit of a cartoony style, from what we have seen so far it is definitely going to be action packed with plenty of fighting throughout the game. we didn't see much of this game but I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more about this game before its release as it has me interested for sure.
Solar Ash
We also got an update for Solar Ash during the State of Play. This 3D platformer where you play as a Void runner apparently has simple combat to suit all players which is great especially if you aren't very good at games like me. When this game was first announced I was quite interested in the game but now I am a bit undecided as I don't know if it is a game for me or not.
Five Nights At Freddy's Security Breach
I really aren't a fan of anything remotely scary so this game doesn't really appeal to me. However, from the trailer we saw it did look quite fun with you being able to go around the soft play in the restaurant, it a long way from the first Five Nights at Freddy's I played years back where you was just sat in the security room flicking between cameras. I will probably be passing on this one but it does look fun.
Oddworld Soulstorm
I definitely think this game is definitely one that Liam would like a fair bit more than me although I do think it could be an interesting game for me to play as I have never played an Oddworld game before. The game uses the controllers haptic feedback which is definitely going to make the game play interesting. You have a choice of being an agent of chaos or none lethal and your actions effect the outcomes in the game which is always fun. After seeing a bit more of the game this time around I am a little more tempted to purchase the game when it comes out in April.
Kena Bridge of Spirits
Last time we saw this game I was very tempted to pick up the game when it came out and after seeing a bit more about it this time around I really do think I am definitely going to be purchasing this. I don't know why but it reminds me of a Disney film when I see this game and the action scenes in the trailer. I think this game is one I could easily lose hours in this game.
Deathloop
The more I see this game the more I think me and Liam are going to really enjoy playing this. In previous trailers I have thought that the game gave me John Wick vibes but this time around it certainly gave me more James bond vibes than John Wick ones. This looks like a very interesting game that could have a lot of potential I just hope it does live up to my expectations when it is released as it is possibly one of the games I am looking forward to the most.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
Final fantasy VII is coming to the PS5. This is a franchise that I aren't bothered about and to be honest I am not sure if I ever am going to be. Even after watching this trailer it doesn't really get me excited for the game although with the updated graphics and textures it does look good. The game is free for the PS4 in March however, you wont be eligible for the free upgrade as only people who paid for the PS4 version get this where your save data will also carry over. I will be downloading this for the PS4 just in case I do ever want to play it so who knows you may see it on the blog again in the future but it wont be for a while.
So that was it for the state of play and to be honest I was a little disappointed there wasn't really anything new or spectacular. I was really hoping for some more God of War or Horizon Forbidden West news which unfortunately we didn't get. I am glad it was only 30 minutes too as I didn't feel as though I wasted too much time and I am definitely glad I didn't stay up for it. There weren't that many games that really interested me enough to want them on day one but for those that did impress me I will be keeping an eye on them in the near future to see if they still interest me or not as the release days approach. What did you think to this State of Play?
